The two largest economies in the world, the United States and China are locked in an ongoing trade war, which is the most striking international Headline of 2018.

By looking at the courses and possible consequences of the ‘US-China trade war’ and going through major international affairs ever since, Professor Jiawei Zhang will share with the audience his insights into China’s evolving relationship with the United States, Canada, the UK, and the rest of the world.

Speaker

Professor Jiawei Zhang is the chief researcher at GBIC, a research fellow at the Jack Austin Asia-Pacific Research Center of Beedie School of Business, Simon Fraser University (SFU), Canada, and a research fellow at the Institute of Strategic Research of Peking University. In particular, Professor Zhang focuses on economic issues related to China and North America as well as the crowdfunding business model and niche market behavior.

Professor Zhang is currently an academic visiting scholar at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Cambridge, focusing on business model research in the field of niche behavioral economics.

Professor Zhang has rich business experience. He was the Chairman and President of a large state-owned company in China for more than ten years. He is an expert in Chinese enterprises’ reform and development and has a deep understanding of China’s Corporation Law. He is a successful Angel investor and a well-known consultant for companies. He has also served as a director, independent director, or strategic advisor in a number of companies, including high-tech companies.

Professor Zhang has published many papers on Chinese and English journals. His book The Rise of Niche, The Ugly Duckling Management, The Crowdfunding Study, Silicon Valley—A New Future as well as the book he translated, Niche: Why the Market No Longer Favours the Mainstream, are all among the most popular Economical books in China. Professor Zhang is widely acclaimed as the founder of the theory of Niche in China.
