Join us on the 13th March for a two-part event with Cao Wenxuan, China’s most popular children’s literature author. In addition to his successful career as an author with an international fanbase, Mr Cao is a professor of literature at Peking University. His rare appearance in Cambridge will explore both careers and be divided into two separate events, (1) an academic talk co-organised by the University of Cambridge’s Faculty of Education; and (2) an evening reading from his books by the author to families and fans of his books. The academic talk and Q & A session will be given in Chinese with the assistance of an English interpreter. The evening readings will be primarily in Chinese.
Often regarded as the “Number One children’s Literature writer in China”, Professor Cao is a lecturer at Peking University and the Vice-Chair of the Beijing Writers’ Association. He was awarded the International Hans Christian Anderson Award in 2016 (the first Chinese author to receive this prestigious award), Wu Cheng’en Novels Award (2017), and the World-impact-Chinese (You Bring Charm to the World Award, 2017).
Professor Cao`s most popular books include The Grass House (草房子), Bronze Sunflower (青铜葵花), Cabin Buried under Snow (埋在雪下的小屋), Goats Don’t Eat Parade Grass (山羊不吃天堂草), The Thin Rice (细米), Root Bird (根鸟), My son Pika (我的儿子皮卡), etc. He has also created many picture books including The Flying Bird’s Nest(飞翔的鸟窝), Feather (羽毛), The Umbrella Above Berlin (柏林上空的伞), Smoke (烟)…
More than a hundred of Professor Cao Wenxuan’s books have been published overseas in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian, Greek, Svenska, Danish, Japanese, Korean and many other languages.
Event Part 2: A book-reading with Professor Cao Wenxuan
The book-reading with Professor Cao Wenxuan is co-organised by Homerton College the University of Cambridge, Changjiang Literature and Art Publishing Group, Cambridge China Centre, the River Cam Breeze Chinese Literature Journal and the Cambridge Chinese Community Centre.
