Cambridge China Centre, Alipay, Cambridge BID, together with many businesses in Cambridge city centre, will celebrate Chinese New Year 2019 by giving back to consumers with Chinese New Year exclusive ‘Alipay Red Packets’. AliPay users will be able to win money when they scan a QR code in store using AliPay.  Across the city people will be using the hashtag #CambsRedPacket to get involved on social media.

The promotion is part of the ‘Cambridge Chinese Culture Festival 2019’, jointly organised by Cambridge China Centre and Cambridge Chinese Community Centre to promote ties between the local communities, businesses and organizations, during the Chinese New Year. The inaugural festival spans from 26 January to 17 February2019. Cambridge China Centre have curated an exciting programme of activities including networking and cultural events.

As a popular destination for Chinese travellers and with forward flight booking data showing that bookings from China to the UK were up 24% from Wednesday 30 January to Tuesday 12 February compared to the week when Chinese New Year fell last year. Chinese New Year is the most celebrated festival among the Chinese all over the world. For 2019 the Chinese New Year’s Day falls on Tuesday 5th Feb 2019.

Together with Alipay, Cambridge China Centre is behind a promotion which will providing Chinese New Year ‘RED PACKET’ incentives to all Alipay users who scan the QR Code at a shop (inventive at random amount, from £1 to £330 per user scan).  Alipay users can get involved at Nana Mexico (all 3 Cambridge addresses), Samuel Smiley Cambridge Gift Store, Rutherford’s Punting Cambridge, Cambridge China Centre, Cambscuisine, The Cambridge Satchel Company, Winner’s Chinese Supermarket.

Jinzhao Li, co-founder of Cambridge China Centre and the festival spoke about the promotion, “This is an exciting opportunity for our retailers in Cambridge to engage with Chinese visitors, and all Alipay users in a new way. Mobile payments are very popular in China, this promotion helps our Cambridge retailers a chance to start using mobile payments in a fun way.”
